In VHF maritime communications, three priority calls are used to signal the nature of the message: Mayday for a grave emergency, Pan-Pan for an urgent situation, and Sécurité for safety information. Sécurité indicates that the message contains safety-related information for navigation, such as weather warnings, navigational hazards, or other safety broadcasts, rather than an immediate threat or routine check. It flags listeners to pay close attention because the content is important for safety but does not require urgent action like a distress call.
